Congrats to all the A4C artists!
Our 'Big Cats' auction was a huge success! With a great crew of organized and talented people, we managed to pull off the biggest aceo event in ebay history, and for an incredible cause! 100% of the money raised was donated to Happy Paws Haven in Alabama. I think this is an incentive to continue on with our next critter venture. Thank you to the winner of this one-of-a-kind, priceless set of aceo's and lovely albums. Happy Paws Haven will never forget you. |

NEW CHARITY: Big Cat Rescue
We did the 'Big Cat' auction, now it is only fitting that we have a charity called 'Big Cats'! We provide a permanent retirement home for approximately 150 lions, tigers,
leopards, cougars, servals, caracals, sand cats, etc., representing 16 of the
35 species of exotic cat. Nowhere else can so many species of exotic cat be
found in one place.

A4C Artists
of The Month
Art for Critters has started awarding 4 artists with an
Artist
of the Month award. As you all know, Art for Critters'
goal is to raise as much money through the sale of our members art
as possible to rescue and care for animals that might otherwise
go neglected.
These members, besides being extremely talented, have gone out of
their way to promote this cause without ever asking for anything
in return. They are an example for us all! We have included a featured
section on our homepage
where you can find a sample of their art and links to their auctions.
If you have the time, please take a look at their work, and even
if you're not in the market, I am sure
they would LOVE to hear from you, they deserve a pat on the back.
Congratulations to Sarah, Padgett, Jennifer and Akiko! |

OLD
DOG HAVEN OBTAINS 501 (c) (3) Status!!
Old
Dog Haven, a hospice and rescue
for senior and terminally ill
dogs has now officially obtained the status as a recognized 501
(c) (3) charity! Old Dog Haven is recognized by Art for Critters
as one of the top charities we represent due to the nature of
the work they do. Many rescues cannot afford to take on senior
homeless pets who have less chance of finding an adoptive home.
Not only does Old Dog Haven take on these unwanted dogs but they
also offer loving hospice care to those who are ill.
We
at Art for Critters salute Old Dog Haven for their mission and
congratulate them on achieving their official 501 (c)(3) status!

more information on Old Dog Haven please see their web site:

URGENT
CALL FOR HELP! Save the Dalmatians has motherless infant
puppies!
Please
Help Us Help Cranberry's Pups!
Right before Christmas there was a very pregnant Dalmatian at the
Orange County Shelter, abandoned by her owner. Gail McKenzie,
our Adoption/Rescue Coordinator, bailed her out and due to the dog's
advanced pregnancy, she could not be spayed. Our President,
Margaret Maas, very generously took on the care of "Cranberry",
as Gail named her.
Cranberry went into labor on Christmas but after the first puppy,
things went terribly wrong. No more puppies came and Cranberry
was very ill. So Margaret had to rush her to the emerg
ency
vet where the rest of the puppies were delivered by C-section. Cranberry
had 9 little puppies. After delivering the puppies, Cranberry
continued to have severe medical problems. The vets discovered
she was bleeding internally, after several hours, so another operation
had to be performed to stop the bleeding. Cranberry grew weaker
and weaker. Then she developed severe edema in the face, neck
and chest area. An abscess appeared on her neck. Another
surgery had to be done and the vet discovered that Cranberry's esophagus
had been shredded and there was food everywhere inside of her where
it didn't belong. The prognosis was not good, Cranberry was
suffering, and so Margaret had to make the difficult decision to
have her euthanized.
This left the nine puppies without a mom to nurse them so Margaret
has been heroically bottle feeding them every few hours for the
last couple of weeks--she is exhausted. Margaret's own Dalmatians,
Candy and Biscuit, are mothering the pups by licking them clean.
Margaret could really use some volunteers who live near San Clemente
or in South Orange County to come and help her bottle feed/wean
the babies and help socialize them. You may contact her at
mmaas@sbcglobal.net or
you may contact Gail McKenzie at gmckenzie1@earthlink.net
We also desperately need donations to help cover Cranberry's and
the pups' veterinary expenses, which are now over $6,000.
You may donate online by using the special button set up on Cranberry's
page--go to our News/Announcements page first (if the button doesn't
work for you, please go to paypal.com and request to send money
to savedals@pacbell.net) or you can send us a check.
Checks should be made payable to Save the Dalmatians and sent to:
Save the Dalmatians
and Others Canine Rescue
P.O. Box 47031-432
Gardena, CA 90247-6831
Thank you so much for your
generosity and support! All
donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.
