I have a degree in Graphic Design & Illustration and in the process of going back to college for my BFA. I am currently a full time Self-Representing Artist & Freelance Illustrator in New York. My canvas paintings are self-taught and are now found world wide in both personal and commercial collections. I also offer miniature sized works of art, known as ACEO's (Art Card Editions & Originals) that have become a very popular way of collecting or purchasing works of art. When time permits, I write & illustrate childrens book or work on commisioned requests.
As a child, creating art was something I always found myself doing. In high school I realized my gift of creativity but decided to pursue more of the business side of art, Advertising & Design, when I entered college. It was then when I realized I didn't find a true satisfaction working more in a mechanical nature on what I felt were someone else's ideas or desires. It wasn't until two years ago during a difficult time in my life that I turned to art for comfort. I went out and purchased my first set of brushes, paints and canvas. With the help of books, practice, patience and any medium I could get my hands on, I found my true calling when I realized my artistic potential. Before I knew it, I was living the life I had only dreamed of.
Currently I dedicate most of my time working on Art Card Originals using Pen & Ink with Designer Gouache, Watercolor or Acrylic. Occasionally I use colored pencil, pastels and mixed media. Most of my subjects involve animals in a seasonal environment but I try not to limit myself to a particular subject or genre. Some illustrations portray realism with a twist of fantasy while others are comical in nature. I enjoy stepping outside of my comfort zone to experiment the world of painting landscapes or abstract art and have even included images of horses into my abstract canvas paintings. Such paintings are part of my DreamWalkers Series that include a poem I have written for that particular series.
For me...art needs to be personal, uninhibited....unbridled. It has to come from within.
My art either exposes the distinct, realistic and meticulous side of me....or the visionary, ethereal and spiritual side. What one sees and another does not in my work....is the beauty of what defines us at work. You will often find something in my realistic paintings that will prompt a question of "How can that be?" or "Is there really such a thing?". My work is not so much what I actually see, but more like what I would love to see or have seen in my dreams.
My gift can only be exercised to it's highest potential when it is my own imagination at work. Dreams and life experiences inspire my imagination, my imagination stimulates the direction of my art. I feel blessed with a gift I can share and a gift that is also giving to both human and animals alike. My hearts love, my minds imagination and my hands creative direction are guided by the greatest artist of all from above. I thank him daily and I thank all my friends, family and collectors world wide that continously support my work!
